1220 my favorite place
Portland is my favorite place, hands down. And of all the places that make up this wacky ville, one of my favorites is Oaks Amusement Park. Opened in 1905 it retains the charm of a simpler time. Many of the rides have been around for decades, and the wooden carousel is just one example. It's also home to a roller rink with a 60 year old Wurlitzer organ for music, and a wooden floor built to float should Willamette River spill over its banks.
The park has no gates, so it's available for early morning walks before the crowds arrive, and it's also a great place to poke around after an evening of shooting roller derby. I often drag out-of-town visitors to the park for some early morning photowalks.... don't I Steven? ;-)
